Getting Started

How do I generate chords from my melody?

  1. Go to the App page
  2. Upload an audio file (WAV or MP3) or record directly in your browser
  3. Click "Analyze & Generate Chords"
  4. View your AI-generated chord progressions for chorus and bridge

What audio formats are supported?

We support WAV and MP3 files up to 16MB. For best results, use clear recordings with audible melody.

Can I record directly in the browser?

Yes! Click the "Record" button on the app page to record your melody directly. Make sure to allow microphone access when prompted.

What does the AI analyze?

Our AI analyzes your melody for:

  • Melody Notes: Individual notes in your tune
  • Key Signature: The musical key (e.g., C major, A minor)
  • Genre: Automatic genre detection (Indie Pop, Folk, Rock, etc.)
  • Chord Progressions: Current chords in the audio (supplementary info)

How do I view chord diagrams?

Click on any chord in the results to see guitar fingering or piano keyboard diagrams. Toggle between instruments using the switch at the top.

What genres are supported?

We support 9 major genres with genre-specific chord recommendations: Indie Pop, Folk/Acoustic, Alternative Rock, Electronic/Synth Pop, R&B/Soul, Hip Hop, Jazz/Blues, Country, and Pop/Top 40.

Pricing & Subscriptions

How many songs can I analyze for free?

Free accounts get 5 songs lifetime. This is perfect for trying out the service.

What are the subscription tiers?

  • Free (Songwriter Starter): 5 songs lifetime
  • Indie Creator ($15/month): 50 songs per month
  • Studio Producer ($35/month): Unlimited songs

How do I upgrade my subscription?

Go to the Pricing page and select your desired plan. We use Stripe for secure payment processing.

Technical Support

Why is processing taking a long time?

Processing times vary from 10-40 seconds depending on OpenAI API traffic. Longer audio files may take more time to analyze.

What if I get an error?

Common issues:

  • File too large: Make sure your audio is under 16MB
  • Upload failed: Check your internet connection and try again
  • Processing error: The audio may be too quiet or unclear - try a clearer recording

Can I use this on mobile?

Yes! Indie Chord Lab works on all devices. You can even add it to your home screen as a Progressive Web App (PWA).
